  • Year R Bekonscot Model Village Trip

    Fri 26 May 2023

We went to Bekonscot Model Village – it was amazing!

The day started off very excitingly as for some of us it was our first time on a coach. When we arrived at Bekonscot we were greeted by Cathy who told us all about the history of the model village – it is the oldest model village in the world and has been open for 94 years! We found out what transport was like 90 years ago and it didn’t sound very comfortable.

We explored the model village and everyone had a different favourite thing that they saw but some of the highlights were: the funfair; the house with the thatched roof on fire; the man sitting on the toilet as his house was falling down; the castles; the big fish in the pond; the windmill; the little shops. As you can imagine there was so much to explore and see but one of the most exciting things was seeing the trains go all around the village. We even got to go on our own train ride which was very exciting too.

We had a fantastic day, the weather was perfect and the children were all really well behaved. Thank you to all the volunteers who accompanied us. When can we go again?!

  • Year 1 Fire Service Visit

    Fri 26 May 2023

We were lucky enough to have a visit from The Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service. We played fire safety quizzes, learnt a song about fire safety, had a uniform race and so much more! We had so many questions to ask the firefighter and made some fantastic comparisons to The Great Fire of London in 1666. Lots of us now want to work for the emergency services when we're older...and so does Mrs Smith!

  • Great Fire of London workshop

    Wed 10 May 2023

Last week we were transported back in time back to 1666. Wow - what an adventure we all had! First of all we got dressed up (some of us even got to wear huge wigs) in some amazing costumes. Then we started with a little bit of shopping in busy Pudding Lane, where we got to use old coins to pay for our buys. Then we saw how the fire spread. Some of us pretended to be the fire while others escaped to safety. Next we all got a chance to put the fire out by pretending we had buckets where we collected water from the River Thames to put the flames out. We then saw how people had to live in tents and how the city was rebuilt. We all had a great session - but we are very glad we live in 2023!

  • King Charles III Coronation Celebrations

    Mon 08 May 2023

    God save the King!

Westfields Infant School celebrated the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla in style by dressing in red, white and blue and having a day filled with celebratory activities.  The children enjoyed making bunting, painting portraits of the King and writing him letters.  They found out about the history of the Coronation and the role of the different members of the royal family.

It was wonderful to have a special picnic lunch together and make crowns to wear in a special parade in the afternoon, where Mr Chaplin rose to the occasion as The Archbishop of Canterbury!   The celebration ended by singing an uplifiting  coronation song and The National Anthem.
