  • Year 1 Moon Buggies

    Fri 10 Feb 2023

In Year 1 we have been making moon buggies as part of our learning in DT. We began by learning about parts of a vehicle such as wheel, axle, chassis. We then designed our own moon buggy, thinking about what features to include and what resources we would need to make it. After that, we spent a morning creating our moon buggy and testing them out, evaluating how well they moved and what we liked about our creations.

  • Multi-Skills Sports Event at Elvetham Heath

    Thu 09 Feb 2023

Great fun was had by the group of KS1 pupils who came along for the Multi-Skills event at Elvetham Heath Primary School. Eight schools from the surrounding area took part in this afternoon of activities.

The children took part in a carousel of activities including, javelin throwing, relay races, target games and tag rugby and dodge ball type games. It was a well organised occasion and the children behaved superbly, demonstrating competitiveness, resilience and good manners. It was wonderful to see them enjoying themselves and having a go at some new skills.

Thank you to Catherine McKeracher (North East Hants School Games organiser) and the Year 6 pupils from Elvetham Heath who helped run the event and thank you the adults who kindly transported the children there.

  • Year 1 Space Workshop

    Thu 02 Feb 2023

Year 1 had an amazing time at the Space Workshop on Monday.  We learnt lots of new facts and had great fun pretending to train for our trip to the moon.  Our training involved using our imagination to test being weightless in the water, pick up moon rocks and listen to instructions from our commander!  We then imagined getting into the rocket and experiencing extreme speed up to the moon.

We learnt about Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins experiences as they visited the moon in 1969.  It was amazing they made it back safely!  See if your child can remember how they fixed the broken switch on the capsule so they could leave the moon!

The whole workshop was “out of this world”!!!

  • Lunar New Year

    Wed 01 Feb 2023

2023 is the Year of the Rabbit and we have been learning about how families celebrate the Lunar New Year. We listened to the story of how each year became named after an animal. After watching some traditional dragon and lion dances we had a chance to perform our own dragon dance. We took it in turns to dance as part of the dragon and then to accompany the dragon on the drums. This tied into this term’s work in music, which has been about keeping a steady beat. We made our own dragon puppets, where we learnt to fold the paper in a concertina style to give it movement and we also made rabbit sun catchers which we hope you have enjoyed seeing on our classroom windows.
