  • British Science Week

    Fri 15 Mar 2024

This week we have had a fantastic time taking part in British Science Week.  We started this exciting extended curriculum opportunity with a special assembly during which we found out what makes a super scientist.

We then spent time in the afternoon designing a poster around the theme of ‘Time’ for a national poster competition (look out for details about the chosen finalists next week!) On Tuesday, we all enjoyed our Science Federation afternoon where each of our classes worked with a class from the juniors on a creative science activity: Year R worked with Year 5 to explore how the seasons change nature over time; the Year 1 classes worked with Year 4 to explore “Active Adaptations” by creating camouflaged clay moths and Year 2 went over to the Junior School to discover more about “Disappearing Dinos” by orderline a timeline.

During the rest of the week, the children explored a variety of activities around the theme of time.  We also wrote letters to our future selves to include in a school time capsule.

It has been a truly super Science Week and we hope it has inspired

    some scientists of the future!

  • World Book Day 2024

    Thu 07 Mar 2024

Wow! What an amazing, (and very comfortable!) day we all had celebrating World Book Day. There was a wonderful buzz in the air with a day of jam-packed reading celebrations, all in our PJs! The World Book Day theme of ‘Read Your Way’ inspired us all.

Each Year group explored a fantastic book series to inspire a love of reading. Reception went on a journey with ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ series making ladybird biscuits, wanted posters and even drawing maps of the farm and writing a plan of escape. Year 1 dived into ‘The Dragonsitter’ series creating their own dragons and imagining what mischief their dragon would cause. Finally, Year 2 delved into the hilarious ‘Mr Penguin’ series describing the characters and creating book covers for their own.

As well as all the fun classroom activities, we also buddied up with WJS to have a ‘Cosy Federation Read’. The children were able to share their books with each other and read in comfortable places across both schools.

The staff had also secretly prepared a game of ‘Guess Who?’ which included mystery videos of them reading a story but our faces were covered, so the children had to guess who was reading.

Finally, we also held our ‘Potato Character Competition’. We were all blown away by the amazing, creative entries but the School Council had the very difficult job of deciding the winners! We were excited to share all of the creations at the end of the day, when they were presented on the playground.

  • Year 2 Multi Skills Festival

    Wed 28 Feb 2024

This afternoon some of our Year 2 children attended a Multi-Skills Festival hosted at Elvetham Heath Primary School. They had a fun-filled and physical afternoon of various activities including balancing beanbags on heads, throwing beanbags into hoops and a range of agility games.  The children absolutely loved participating in this extended curriculum opportunity and despite it being on the rather chilly side, they did not want the afternoon to end! Well done sports stars!

  • Safer Internet Day 2024

    Tue 06 Feb 2024

Today all of the children had a wonderful day celebrating Safer Internet Day and learning all about staying safe online.

The day started with a visit from Westfields Junior School’s  ‘Digital Leaders’ who led a very special e-safety themed assembly and explained this year’s theme ‘Inspiring Change’.

Following this, throughout the day the children listened to stories and scenarios and discussed what the characters should do if they feel worried about something they have seen or heard on-line. The children completed a number of actives from online safety posters to designing new technology for the future.

Each of our Year 2 classes even had the opportunity to visit Westfields Junior School to work with Year 5 and look at how technology and the internet has changed over time by creating a technology timeline. We all reminded ourselves about the important message of talking with a trusted adult if we are worried about something we see or hear online, whist having fun!

Such a great extended curriculum opportunity with an important safety message.

  • Judo Taster Sessions

    Thu 01 Feb 2024

This week all of our Year 1 and Year 2 children have enjoyed a Judo taster session courtesy of Mr Fricker.

From the children’s feedback they had a fantastic time being introduced to this art form.

  • Year 1 Space Workshops

    Mon 29 Jan 2024

Today we welcomed Mr Chaplin from WJS. He came to talk to each of our Year 1 classes all about Space. As well as talking all about the different planets, he shared lots of fascinating information all about the first moon landing. The children had the opportunity to act out Neil Armstrong taking his first step on the moon and we all joined in with the famous quote ‘one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind’. We learnt some extraordinary facts about how astronauts survive in Space including what they eat and how they go to the toilet! At the end of the session we asked lots of thoughtful space related questions which Mr Chaplin answered brilliantly!

  • World Religions Day 2024

    Mon 22 Jan 2024

Today all of the children were given the exciting opportunity to take part in our very first World Religions Day. Each year group was allocated a different religion which was then explored and discussed as an extended curriculum opportunity:

    Year R - Judaism     Year 1 - Islam     Year 2 - Hinduism

Through a range of music, art and stories, the children had the chance to complete an array of creative tasks to extend their knowledge and understanding of different religions. In each class, the children learnt about the key beliefs and places of worship for their focus religion. To make the day even more special, Year 2 even enjoyed a visit from the Year 6 classes at the Juniors to create some very colourful Rangoli patterns using chalks.

  • Road Safety Week

    Fri 24 Nov 2023

This week we have all been thinking carefully about how we can stay safe when we are outside in the dark and in particular when we cross roads. We had a great day today celebrating ‘Time to Shine Day’ where we all  came to school in bright clothes to remind us that we need to stay safe when near and crossing roads particularly in the dark.

  • Friendship Week

    Fri 17 Nov 2023

As part of our special annual event, we began our Friendship Week by celebrating how we all different with Odd Sock Day. We had lots of fun looking at each others socks talking about the similarities and differences and relating this to how we are all different. We then had a creative time designing our own odd socks using paints, colouring pencils and felt tips!

Across the school throughout the week, we have been thinking carefully about what makes a good friend. We have talked about what our friends do which makes us like them. We have also thought about what we should do to be a good friend to others - To have a friend, you need to be a friend...

Beyond our circle times as well as class and group discussions, we had a special assembly and each year group has completed a range of activities all about friendship including paper chain friends, poetry and even a recipe for friendship!

  • Harvest Celebrations 2023

    Fri 13 Oct 2023

Today we celebrated our Harvest Assembly.

Every child participated by making a donation to our Hart Food Bank Collection and each year group shared a Harvest themed song. In addition to this, our fabulous School Choir sung a catchy tune about conkers!

The children performed their words and actions brilliantly and the occasion gave us all the opportunity to be thankful for all we have.
