Today Year 1 had an informative visit from Claire who works for Hampshire Fire and Rescue. To help the children understand the importance of fire safety, she taught the children a song with actions, played a game and told a story to reinforce key safety messages in an age appropriate way. We also learnt a rhyme: ‘Matches and lighters never touch they can hurt you very much!’ Claire shared that smoke alarms should be tested once a week at home so we must remember to ask an adult to check. The children were all very impressed when Claire showed them what firefighters wear to protect themselves - we had a competition to see who could get dressed quickest!    Certainly a fun experience with a very important message.
