Year 2 Trip to RHS Wisley Gardens
Today Year 2 had a fantastic time at Wisley Gardens and were fantastic ambassadors for WIS. Despite the rather soggy weather their spirts and excitement levels were high and each and every pupil certainly grasped this fantastic off-site experience; learning so much from the beautiful grounds and the education centre with Kyle and Charlotte leading some great
sessions. In particular, the children enjoyed finding some rather unusual flowers in the Glasshouse and in the various gardens. There were alliums, poppies, jade vines and some perculiar species such as lamb’s ear and big ears - which the children thought sounded very funny! We visited a very old oak tree that was the home to more than 4000 species of minibeasts, insects and birds - the children could not believe there were so many. We also listened to the birdsong and learnt what the song of the wren and the chiffchaff sound like. In addition to this, the children loved having the
opportunity to plant their own cornflower seeds which they got to take home to look after. Overall it was a great day and we hope that the children have really benefitted from the hands-on experience; their detailed recount writing that they have completed seems to show this was most definitely the case.
Well done Year 2, you are superstars and thank you to the parents who joined us, we hope you enjoyed it too!
