Reading Matters Week 2025!

What a fantastic time celebrating reading we have had!

Throughout this week the children have been completing travel-themed reading activities linked to their class text to celebrate our love of reading and have achieved many virtual passport stamps!

In Year 1 Rabbit and Mole class went on an adventure with ‘Zog’ by Julia Donaldson and Badger class explored ‘The Squirrels who Squabbled’ by Rachel Bright. In Year 2 Owl class travelled through ‘Leaf’ by Sandra Dieckmann, Woodpecker class dived into ‘Jack’s Secret World’ by Jack Ryder and Robin class flew through ‘The Night Dragon’ by Naomi Howarth.

We have created stamps to represent the story settings, made passports for characters in the story and created story maps predicting what might happen next in our books. A lot of fun has been had and we look forward to displaying some of the children’s fantastic first-class standard of work around our school. Each class has also had a ‘Team Challenge’ where each class chose a travel destination and took a photo of them reading at that destination. The photos are below for you all to see, can you guess their destinations?

Finally, today we had our Big Federation Read, which was a huge success and the children loved sharing their stories with their buddies from Westfields Junior School. It has been a successful week and we are all so delighted that our children have developed their reading skills and shown they really are wonderful reading explorers - what a super start to the new learning year!
