District Sports
Thu 19 Jun 2025WIS proudly took part in the Hart District Sports – and what a memorable event it was!
Despite the exceptionally hot weather, all of our children performed exceptionally, showing determination, enthusiasm, and great team spirit throughout the day.
We are incredibly proud to share that Westfields placed 4th overall – a fantastic achievement!
Every child gave their best in their events, and beyond their athletic
accomplishments, their conduct was absolutely exemplary. They truly
represented our school with pride and were a credit to the entire
Westfields Community.
A huge well done to all the children involved! We hope everyone who attended had a wonderful time, and we are already looking forward to taking part again in the future.

iRock Assembly
Wed 18 Jun 2025We had our very own rock band perform at WIS today when iRock Leader, James, came to visit. He showed several children how to play the drums, guitar, keyboard and we even had a singer. In just a short time the whole school were rocking to 'We Will Rock You'. There were lots of smiling faces and James will be coming back to Westfields Infants in September to start some music lessons with some of our children. We are looking forward to their first concert at the end of the Autumn term.

Federation Maths Day 2025
Mon 16 Jun 2025Today was not just any Monday but our ‘Taskmathster’ themed Maths Day! The children started their day watching some of our wonderful teachers take part in challenges in a special assembly. Then it was the children's turn. There were tasks involving measuring, shape, number and even singing! It was fantastic to see the teamwork, planning and logical thinking to solve each challenge. We had some great songs about the number 10 written by each class. Challenge 5 was to make the longest paper chain out of one piece of paper. The children worked in groups of 3 or 4 to solve it and the longest chain measured over 3 metres! It was brilliant walking round seeing children so enthusiastic and engaged solving mathematical problems. Maths was definitely fun at Westfields!

Year R Judo Taster Sessions
Fri 06 Jun 2025Today all of our Year R children had the excitement of participating in a rather fun-filled taster judo session.
Ahead of being able to join in at Judo Club in September, Mr Fricker, the judo teacher, hosted practical sessions with each of our Reception Classes to give the children an idea of this exciting sport which many of the children may not have experienced before.
Firstly, each class were introduced to important safety rules. Then Mr Fricker shared some new Japanese words, followed by some judo moves, games and skills.
Everyone had so much fun and shared that they enjoyed their session.
We are so glad that we are able to offer your children these extended curriculum opportunities and hope that lots of our pupils will be inspired to join the early morning club from September, who knows we could have a future judo champion at WIS?!

Thu 05 Jun 2025This week, we had a special treat as Hannah from Gremlin Dance visited our school to run exciting dance workshops with all of our children. Each class took part in a unique session tailored just for them. Reception had a
wonderful time moving like animals, exploring rhythm and movement through creative play. Meanwhile, Years 1 and 2 were full of energy as they learned some lively Bollywood dance moves! The children absolutely loved it, and we even filmed each workshop so they could look back on their fantastic performances. A big thank you to Hannah for bringing so much joy and rhythm to our week!

Year 2 Trip to RHS Wisley Gardens
Tue 03 Jun 2025Today Year 2 had a fantastic time at Wisley Gardens and were fantastic ambassadors for WIS. Despite the rather soggy weather their spirts and excitement levels were high and each and every pupil certainly grasped this fantastic off-site experience; learning so much from the beautiful grounds and the education centre with Kyle and Charlotte leading some great
sessions. In particular, the children enjoyed finding some rather unusual flowers in the Glasshouse and in the various gardens. There were alliums, poppies, jade vines and some perculiar species such as lamb’s ear and big ears - which the children thought sounded very funny! We visited a very old oak tree that was the home to more than 4000 species of minibeasts, insects and birds - the children could not believe there were so many. We also listened to the birdsong and learnt what the song of the wren and the chiffchaff sound like. In addition to this, the children loved having the
opportunity to plant their own cornflower seeds which they got to take home to look after. Overall it was a great day and we hope that the children have really benefitted from the hands-on experience; their detailed recount writing that they have completed seems to show this was most definitely the case.
Well done Year 2, you are superstars and thank you to the parents who joined us, we hope you enjoyed it too!

Yr R Finkley Down Farm Trip
Tue 20 May 2025Today the sun brightly shone down on Finkley Down Farm as Year R embarked upon their very first school trip! Highlights of the day included a goat race, learning how to safely feed the animals as well as a chance to groom Bobby the miniature pony. The children were so gentle and respectful around the animals, especially during an opportunity to handle some very young rabbits. During a walk around the owl enclosure, our children could be heard explaining the difference between nocturnal and diurnal animals to the keepers, making their teachers very proud. Thank you to all of our volunteers who made our day so special and well done to all our incredible Year Rs - a day to remember!

The Great Fire of London Class Workshops
Thu 15 May 2025Today all of our Year 1 children enjoyed an interactive workshop all about The Great Fire of London. To extend and enhance their historical understanding of this significant event in British History, every child had the opportunity to take on a role in costume and act out the events of that fateful time in 1666. Without exception, the children enthusiastically took on the roles of key figures including: The King, Samuel Pepys and of course the baker as well as the merchants and townsfolk of the area. The children re-enacted putting out the fire by working co-operatively in a chain to pass buckets of water from the River Thames to save their homes. From the children’s engagement and feedback, it is crystal clear they gained so much from this hands-on experience, they really enjoyed themselves and many shone as budding actors of the future!

VE Day Celebrations
Thu 08 May 2025The children and staff had a wonderful day commemorating the 80th anniversary of VE Day with everyone proudly wearing red, white and blue. The day began with an assembly about the importance of VE Day, followed by themed activities. Year 2 School Council representatives attended the commemorative service in Yateley where they laid a wreath which had a very special addition to it - earlier in the week, members of our art club worked hard to design the inside of the wreath which is now on display at the war memorial for all to see. It was a very special service and local dignitaries including Ishbel Thomson and David Simpson from the Royal British Legion and Alex Baker MP took time to speak to our children about the importance of the day. Back at school, at 12pm, we observed the two-minute silence to honour those who served during World War II and following that, the celebrations continued with a wonderful whole school picnic which brought everyone together to give a taste of what communities did 80 years ago. The day's events and activities culminated in an uplifting and very special parade involving every child and member of staff. It was an amazing sight watching our children wave their Union Jack flags and sing songs from this era, with our Year 2 children impressing us all with their waltzing! With many family members in attendance, there was a real community spirit and the event ended with the powerful and moving message: "We will remember them." It was a very memorable day for the children and special thanks must go to Mrs Fennell and Mrs Wilson who organised the day as well as Linda and her team in the kitchen for providing the picnics with Union Jack added
touches!
Certainly a memorable day!
