Safer Internet Day 2026

Even an unexpected incident on Tuesday couldn’t stop us celebrating Safer Internet Day! Although we had to pause our plans on Tuesday, throughout the remainder of this week, the children have enjoyed exploring this year’s theme “Safe and Responsible Use of AI”. We launched the event with a special assembly where the children learned what AI is and where we might experience it at home and in school. We discussed how AI is a tool, a type of computer designed to seem like it can think but it doesn’t have feelings, imagination or creative ideas like humans do. The children took part in fun, hands-on activities, including designing their own voice assistants and sorting examples of what is AI and what is not. Our key messages included:

· AI is a tool, not a person;

· It does not have feelings.

· We use it with a trusted adult.

· We think carefully about what we share.

· We check information with an adult.

· We always use technology kindly and responsibly.

As with all technology, children are reminded to speak to a trusted adult if they ever feel worried, upset or unsure online.
