Year 2 News
Year 2 enjoyed visiting Yateley Library and choosing a book to take home.
In Year 2 we have been having fun exploring clay. We have explored rolling a sphere, rolling a long thin shape and experimented with clay tools.
The children had a fun-filled day on Thursday 25th November when they had their Victorian Day. The children and staff came to school dressed up and ready to go back in time to the Victorian era. They visited a Victorian class where they had to do a drill, handwriting and counting. They learnt about the dunce corner and were even threatened with the cane if they misbehaved! (We had some fantastic actors). They learnt how washday was hard work when you washed your clothes with a dolly, a washboard and a mangle. They also looked at Victorian toys and how simple they were compared with todays toys. We had a go at making some optical illusions and a cup and ball. They had a great day but they were relieved they didn't live in Victorian times.
The Year 2 children have been wondering where this suitcase came from. They used their detective skills and their history knowledge to find some clues. Many children realised it was old and they remembered the people in History they had already learnt about – Samuel Pepys and Guy Fawkes. We found out the items were from Victorian times and now we are finding out about life in these times.
