World Religion Day
This year to celebrate WRD at WIS, firstly we shared a thought provoking whole school assembly outlining the ideas of peace and understanding behind World Religion Day and then we headed off to our classrooms to find out more!
Each year group explored a different world religion. In Reception we introduced the children to Judaism by looking at some key beliefs around the sacred text, the Torah and how its words are honoured by the Jewish people. The children in Year 1 focussed on Islam; looking at the mosque as a place of worship and some key beliefs. We made geometric patterns and painted patterns to create prayer mat pictures. Year 2 had a visit from Year 6 as both year groups were exploring aspects of Hinduism, including the creation story. This involved painting and making lotus flowers, as well as Rangoli patterns.
