Victorian Day - February 2017
Year 2 travelled back in time to the 1800's and experienced what it was like to be a Victorian child. The classrooms were transformed and the children came to school dressed as a Victorian child. The children really invested in the experience and had all come up with a character name and background, and they really loved the drama element.
Throughout the day the children rotated round the classrooms to experience a Victorian school room, Victorian washday and a Victorian toy shop. During the school room activity the children got a chance to experience what it might have been like for Victorian children at school. They had to sit in rows, do drill and even write with their opposite hand! As part of the washday activity children experienced how washing would have been done in the 1800's and had a chance to look at original artefacts including using a mangle. In the toyshop the children got to try out Victorian toys and make a cup and ball and thaumatrope.
The children absolutely loved the day and thrived on the hands on learning approach.
