Reading Matters Week!
What a fantastic time celebrating reading we have had! Throughout this week the
children have been completing Olympic-themed reading activities to celebrate our love of reading and help them ‘Go for Gold’ to achieve virtual medals.
We have created bookmarks to recommend books, shared medal-worthy favourite book characters and the children have even displayed their favourite stories on podiums! A lot of fun has been had and we look forward to displaying some of the children’s fantastic gold medal standard work around our school.
Each class has also had a ‘Team Challenge’ where they have moved their class athlete around the race track by reading, trying to be the class who reads the most this week. We enjoyed checking our race positions in Wednesday’s assembly where Woodpecker were in 1st place but I can now reveal that the Gold Medal winners of the Team Challenge are…
1st: Owl, 2nd: Woodpecker, 3rd: Rabbit
Congratulations to you all!
Finally, today we had our Big Federation Readathon, which was a huge success and the children loved sharing their stories with their buddies from Westfields Junior School.
It has been a successful week and all the children have developed their reading skills and shown they really are wonderful reading athletes!
